Medieval Knights and Scottish Dogs by Ozkilts The 14th Annual Berry Celtic Festival will be held on Saturday, 25th May 2020. This will be a celebration of all things Celtic. Expect a day filled with entertainment such as traditional tunes for kids, fantastic jousting medieval knights, workshops for Irish dancing, instrumental sessions, Gaelic singing and more!

The festival will happen at the Berry Showground in Berry, NSW. It will begin with a parade at 9:30 am and conclude at 4 pm. The parade will see pipe bands marching in their distinctive kilts along with representatives of the different clans, Scottish Terrier dogs and medieval knights making a stylish entry at the Berry Showground.

This is a fundraising endeavour organised by the Rotary Club of Berry. Tickets are priced at $10 for adults, and admission for children under 15 is free.

If You Love Celtic Music, This Festival is for You

You can witness the marching of the massed bands, Celtic fiddlers, musical items, enchanted singing and highland dancing. If you want to dance the night away in style, the Berry Celtic Festival Dance is an event you don’t want to miss.

Fascinated by pipe bands and massed bands? Make sure to get to the event on time, or even a little early. All the pipe bands march in the morning. The parade begins first thing, at 9:30 am.

Learn to Dance at the Festival

The Berry Celtic Festival encourages participation through learning. They have several dance workshops slated for you to choose from. So come well rested.

For those who know a few steps already, you will have multiple opportunities to dance to instrumental music during the festival. You don’t need tap shoes, but consider some comfortable and flexible footwear.

Come Show off Your Utility Kilt While You Watch the Knights March…Then Face Off

First, the knights start the day in the parade. Some of them wear their utility kilts for the parade, others wear full armour. It’s very heavy armour, for the record!

Later, they face off on horseback or in hand-to-hand combat. The lances are extraordinary and are one of the highlights of the day. People have always been fascinated by knights, and it is rare to see their activities re-enacted so well.

It’s All for a Good Cause

Funds from the ticket proceeds have gone to clubs like Can Assist Shoalhaven in the past. Many other community groups will receive funding.

If you plan to attend the dance, be sure to reserve tickets early. The dance festival will happen from 7 pm to 10.30 pm. You can participate in a light supper at the dance. There are prizes for best clothing, but the dress code is comfortable.

All in all, it will be a fun day. A crowd is more than likely, so come prepared to mix and mingle with tons of other Celtic fans of kilts!
